Entertainment News

Sad news in the entertainment world. Creature creator Stan Winston died last week after a seven year struggle with cancer.

For anyone who might not know Stan Winston's work you don't have to look very hard. He created some of the most memorable characters in movie history including The Terminator, Predator, Edward Scissorhands, and the Jurassic Park Dinosaurs.

I've been a fan of Stan Winston's work since I was a kid. Innovators like him inspired me to want to be a filmmaker. Stan Winston is one of my childhood heroes and he will be celebrated and greatly missed.

Here is a link to an article about Stan Winston. If you're a fan you'll probably enjoy reading the interviews with some of Stan's proteges like Steve Wang and Greg Nicotero.

At least there are still a couple of people who still work with practicals. Well, I guess I can't trash CG anymore to you, though, right?

I'm a strong believer in using all the tools in the toolbox. Jurassic Park (especially part 3) is a perfect example how 3D and Practical FX can be used together successfully.
